Job Title: Graduation Interventionist

Position Summary
The graduation interventionist will be responsible for data collection, tracking student progress toward on-time graduation, meeting with parents and students, and working with our counseling and administrative teams to develop strategies to improve graduation rate. They will do this by ensuring that students graduate on time and college/career ready. The ideal candidate will have teaching and/or counseling experience and is able to work independently and with our faculty and administrative team to ensure that our graduation goals are met.
Provide in- and out-of-school case management services to a selected group of at-risk high school students (30 to 40) and their families at a Greenville County Schools (GCS) high school. Dropout prevention, intervention and other outreach efforts will be provided in conjunction with 1) high school personnel; 2) feeder, middle-school staff; 3) GCS employees responsible for alternative and supplemental educational programs; and 4) community agencies able to meet the health and social service needs of students and their families. The goal of the Graduation Coach is to increase student attendance and achievement resulting in an increased graduation rate at their assigned high school.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
▪Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
▪One or more years of successful experience working with secondary at-risk students in, or involving, their school environment.
▪Working knowledge of appropriate strategies and resources for reducing behaviors that put students at risk of not graduating from high school.
Additional Requirements
▪Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, staff, students, and parents.
▪Interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with school staff, parents, students and community groups.
▪Working knowledge of computers, word processing and database software.
▪Ability to analyze data and develop, implement and track intervention plans and strategies
▪Ability to travel to schools, attendance area neighborhoods and throughout the District as needed.
▪Valid South Carolina Driver’s License with applicable insurance coverage.
Reports To: Supervisor – School Principal
Job Goal: To increase student attendance and achievement among the targeted students resulting in an increased graduation rate at their assigned high school.
Performance Responsibilities:
▪Identify 30 – 40 students at risk of dropping out using school-established criteria and select a set of students to “coach” in coordination with school staff.
▪Assess each student’s needs, set academic goals and formulate a comprehensive plan for assistance in coordination with the student, parents/guardians, teachers, guidance counselors and community agency staff. Implement appropriate preventative measures and interventions for the student and family based on this plan
▪Meet with and counsel each student weekly, and as-needed, through a combination of individual and small group meetings.
▪Coordinate access to needed educational and social services for students and their families including mentors.
▪Communicate regularly with parent(s)/guardian(s), to discuss progress, obstacles and needed efforts by students and parents. This should include face-to-face contact in the first month of school followed by monthly communication via the phone, email or home visits. Where desired, establish a parent support group(s) and facilitate their meetings.
▪Make additional home visits to investigate cases of non-attendance and refer to, and work with, community agencies to alleviate school attendance problems.
▪Document student progress and the results of consultation with parents, students, school staff, and community agencies.
▪Produce a quarterly progress report on each student listing baseline data, progress, challenges and continuance of, or changes in, strategies/actions based on the comprehensive plan for assistance. Distribute reports to students, parents, teachers of students and the GRADUATE GREENVILLE director.
▪Provide information and training to middle school and high school teachers on support measures that work with youth identified as at risk of not graduating and the youth’s parents/guardians.
▪Communicate and meet regularly with designated school personnel and the GRADUATE GREENVILLE director concerning individual student progress, effective practices and program direction.
▪Prepare annual reports that, based on GRADUATE GREENVILLE measures of success, measure student progress and identify effective practices, program challenges, and needed program modifications.
▪Participate in relevant professional training
